Get Dring Mobile – The Photos

Top night down at Paintworks last night for the Get Dring Mobile auction, some great live painting outside, great music and a whole lot of bidding for a great guy. Well, bidding for art to raise money for a great guy, Mike himself of course not being for sale.

It was interesting to see how the bidding went. Some pieces were an absolute steal, other went for far more than you would ever have thought. As a wise man put it last night, ‘a picture’s only worth what someone is willing to pay for it’. Stencil work still seems to be very much in fashion with the buyerati, wonder how much longer that will last.

In total, the auction raised something like £24,500, before you count in the bar receipts, pieces that sold outside of the auction and all sorts. So well on the way to getting Mike’s car sorted then, awesome stuff.

There’s more to come still too, lots of pieces left to be sold on Ebay very soon, including a lovely Will Barras that lots of people were coveting last night, so keep an eye out.

Here’s some photos from it all then, the live painting as it went along, and the works inside the auction as well.

Somethings For The Weekend

Busy old weekend of stuff coming up, lots of painting across the city and beyond. Some of it you won’t see for a bit, but other bits are more of a social affair.

First up, something that’s got a proper buzz going about it, the results of some hardcore planning and painting, the Triple Drop show by Acer, Dicy and Ziml down at the Centrespace gallery in the centre. It’s a show designed to price work fairly, and it’s looking like being up there as one of the shows of the year. Opening tonight (email for an invite if you’re quick), then running through until next Tuesday only.

Here’s a few teaser images for you…

Next up…

montpelier bean feast

…over in Montpelier on Saturday, they’re bringing back the Montpelier Bean Feast, a festival from the 1700’s. Lots going on, but of relevance to the blog is that loads of the garage doors up on St Andrews Road are getting painted by a bunch of folk. Line up not confirmed yet, some graf based, some not, but some big names by the look of it. Should be a fun day out.

Also on Saturday, further afield in Weston, there’s a massive load of painting going on at the Weston Paint Jam. There’s been talk of it getting cancelled, but it’s definitely on, painting at the Tropicana. Line up so far is MCL, SPQR, Frisky, Matti, Nine-0, Stickee, Elmo, NathanaelDraws, JK47, Khoi, Kone1972, Dead Posh and Prankz, with a few more in the pipeline too.

Loads on then, open doors day on Saturday too which is always interesting. The weather forecast’s looking dandy for Saturday and Sunday, so get off your computer and go and see real things!

SPQR On The Full Moon

This was done round the middle of the last week, just before the opening of the SPQR show over the other side of the bearpit.

On the side of the Full Moon pub at the bottom of Stokes Croft, a large SPQR character.

Must go and check the show out sometime soon too, once it’s all calmed down a bit.

‘Open and Shut’ For The Mercy Centre

Bit more arty than totally graf really this, but a top cause with some top work in it, can’t say it better than what they’ve said themselves…

This years Open & Shut sketch pads have been put together to help raise funds for the Mercy Centre Foundation

The Mercy Centre is a non profit organization in Bangkok. They build and operate schools, improve family health and welfare, protect street children’s rights, combat the AIDS crisis, respond to daily emergencies, and offer shelter to orphans, to street children, and to children and adults with AIDS – always together, hand in hand and heart to heart with the people they serve

This is the first of what we hope to be many annual appeals for a different charity each year. Each year will take the format of three sketch pads that will be sent to a group of artists to produce works of their choice to help raise funds for the nominated charity. Next years event will include a limited edition book of the works produced.

This year’s contributors and people of immense generosity are as follows.

Open & Shut – Y2008

Book 1
Mr Jago
Guy Denning
Jef Aerosol

Book 2
Matt Small
Miss Bugs
Mau Mau
Nick Walker

Book 3
Brian Jones
Dale Grimshaw

A full listing of the completed works can be found on the following blog.

The Main Event

The three books will be auctioned on Ebay with auctions commencing the 11.10.2008 and running for 20 days. Next year we may look to auction houses to potentially maximise the funds raised.

Books 1 & 2 will be raffled on Ebay with each ticket costing £5.00 and with payment strictly by Paypal. The auction will be listed as 100% donation to charity and the payments will be made directly to the Paypal account of the registered charity. In this way we minimise fees and maximise the contribution to the nominated charity. People are more than welcome to buy more than one ticket and the unique reference number issued by Paypal will be used in the raffle process. The two winners will be announced on the 01.11.2008.

Book 3 will be auctioned on Ebay with the auction again commencing on the 11.10.2008 and running for 20 days. Payment for this book will be by Paypal or Cheque only. Any Paypal payment will again be made directly to the Paypal account of the registered charity and with all cheques being made out directly to the charity.

Donations – Several Galleries and Artists made very kind separate donations. These will all be auctioned as individual items on Ebay during the month of Oct-08. Payment for these donations will be by Paypal or Cheque only. Any Paypal payment will again be made directly to the Paypal account of the registered charity and with all cheques being made out directly to the charity.

If you didn’t win in Graffle, why not give this a punt?

More On King’s Square Avenue

Blogged this one at the start of the year, but a couple of new bits have appeared since, up at the top end where it meets Jamaica Street.

This SPQR piece went up around the time of the ‘Not a Penny’ show just down the road.

But more recently, another Mudwig’s sprung up, just as incomprehensible as all the rest.
