New Short Sickboy Show

Here’s one that’s not been done before, probably. Sickboy’s got a new show coming up, opening on the 16th December and closing on, well, the same day.

Yep, a three hour show, over in that London, from 6pm til 9pm.

If you can make it, email rsvp@thesickboy.com, but if you can’t, email sales@thesickboy.com to be sent a catalogue at 4pm (or thereabouts) that day.

Here’s the rest of the info…

Stokes Croft China And Paint Experiment

When the flyer and the email for this came around, it looked like the sort of thing that might be a bit far out of the scope of the blog, despite it being put on by the PRSC folks.

As it turned out though, the Stokes Croft China show, which opened at the PRSC shop on Jamaica Street on Friday night, is actually pretty interesting.

Chris Chalkley of PRSC’s background is in the china and pottery trade, so it’s a natural progression for Stokes Croft China to be launched, a range of china and crockery items, all printed with different things related to the graf and arty goings on around Stokes Croft.

Here’s some of what’s there.

A huge load of ‘I love’ mugs…

With some familiar names.

Lots of other mugs too with images of work from around Stokes Croft over the last few years. Here’s some Dan ones…

…and this one, one of this blog’s personal Stokes Croft favourites from the last few years.

It’s not just mugs, why not treat yourself to a new, erm, toilet?

Or perhaps a Boswell plate?

The whole show’s properly presented, in display cabinets bought from Royal Worcester when it had a closing sale from a factory no less.

Here’s the logos…

…had thought thought put into them, a crown with ‘SCC’ for Stokes Croft China above.

It’s an interesting take on the work going on round Stokes Croft, and on until Christmas Eve, so have a wander down and judge for yourself if they’re fit to use the crown.

Incidentally, next weekend, there’s another ‘paint experiement’ going on. Must be 18 months or so ago now that Jamaica Street has a load of boards on it in front of the hostel with small pieces painted by lots of different folk. There’s going to be another one on the 5th and 6th December, here’s the idea.

Boards, canvas and other surfaces of various sizes will be provided and attached to the P.R.S.C’s Jamaica Street fence in Stokes Croft. Some painting materials will also be available – though contributions will be welcome – and anyone will be free to make an artwork on the 5th and 6th of December, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

After that, the works will remain on the Jamaica Street wall until sold, and as gaps appear, new boards will go up for painting.

So, if you’re looking for somewhere for a quick paint, wander down…

Sickboy Temple 3D At Last

sickboy temple models

Times have moved on since 2007 obviously, but Sickboy’s temple being done as a 3d model was the second ever post on this blog (cringe), and the first of a fair few exclusives too. It all fell apart at the time, due to various people’s personal circumstances out of Sickboy’s control, but a prototype model popped up again in his London show last year, and now finally its getting a proper release. Here’s the story from the man himself. It’s not been easy…

“Nobody said it was going to be easy, and this definitely wasn’t. I’ve been laughed at by model makers, sneered at by spotty adolescents from Games Workshop, breathed in enough turpentine to keep a glue sniffer happy for years, and ruined my best shirt at the printers. But I couldn’t let this one slip through the net.”

The edition’s varied, there are four different types now, and the price has gone up a little from last time, but pretty soon you’ll be able to pick up a 3d Sickboy temple for yourself.

There’s more info on Sickboy’s website here. They’re looking tidy.

Bower Ashton Paint Jam Next Tuesday

Not a lot of people know, but Bower Ashton campus of UWE has a fair old history in the world of Bristol graffiti. Lots of well known writers have passed through its doors over the last few years, in fact for some it’s the reason they came to Bristol in the first place. Well, if not the reason, then perhaps the justification…

Just one example of it, courtesy of Neil, the back wall of the bar there painted by Sickboy back in 2000 or so. Early as you like.

So, from the good people that brought you the ‘Not Just Banksy’ event a while back, and co-inciding with Fresher’s Week, a large paint jam’s been organised down there for next Tuesday (22nd September). Here’s the chat;

UWE’s

And some surprise guests

Turntable Tuesday DJs in the bar.

Wouldn’t be a student event if it wasn’t being organised through Facebook, so check it out for more over there. If you want to see some of what happened at the last one, auntie beeb has some footage here. Otherwise head down to Kennel Lodge Road at the bottom of Ashton Court a week today.

June Events Roundup

Really loads of events coming up over the next few days if you fancy it, so here’s a bit of a round up…

prsc banner

Starting with tonight (Thursday), you’ve got the dutch auction being run by PRSC closing. Sounds like there are stil some pieces available at bargain basement prices, so get down to their Jamaica Street gaff to see what you can pick up.

poster-show-low

Tomorrow night, if you’re in Bristol, you could do worse than wander along to check out the Bristol Design Festival, lots of designy stuff going on obviously, but the matryoshka army project is interesting. Lots of those russian dolls that fit into each other, painted by the following folk.

Mr Jago, FLX, Goer, Epok, Sepr, Cheba, Afeks, Hakah, Lobb, Zesk, Sarah Jane, Zier, Dora, Heidi Gough, Tom Albinal, Lokey, Iria, Jedi, Lauren Millington, Nik Ill, Daddison, Millie Gleeson, Cheo, 3Dom, Poer

Possibly by some accounts meant to be opening down at the Old Fire Station on Friday, but their blog seems to say that there might actually be an opening of them down at 35 King Street (near the Old Duke) tonight too. Actually, the blog seems to say the dolls part of the show will be at 35 King Street the whole time. And also at the Old Fire Station. Who knows. Our money’s on this one being at the King Street address. The design festival itself is definitely at the Old Fire Station though.

meeting of styles

If you’re closer to London, also starting on Friday is a really good looking event, End of the Line presents Meeting of Styles. Tons of writers, tons of tunes, all over by Brick Lane in trendy Shoreditch. Here’s the lineup;

Nash, Does, Biser, Wany, Aryz, Heat, Nychos, Bird, Inkie, Probs, Zomby, Tizer, Zadok, Bleach, Bonzai, Insa, Solo, Busk, Twesh, Odisie, Roid, Snug, Skore, Aztek, Ekto, Sune, Xenz, Izer, Are, Stika, Teck, Rabodiga, Vibes, Town, Chrome, Intro, Replete, Cheo, Soker, Casm, Wisher, Jive, Sorn, Noir, Urge, Keen, Pryme, Mac1, Krah, Sick IR, Sares, Cosh, Jasik, Alfa, Relay, Pref, Mau Mau, Shok, Skire, Ebzke, Amuk.

They’re all over the web with info, so check out their blog if you want to know more. Epic.

Incidentally, if you’re in London, Rowdy’s show opened last night, and seems to have been promoted by a pretty cool van touring the city sometime recently.

Of course though, the big one if you’re in Bristol this weekend is Upfest. Massive lineup from all sorts of styles and backgrounds, should be packed out. They’ve got a really nice website too, so check that out for all the info.

Looking a bit further ahead, the Friend and Co Gallery are heading south of the river for a bit for a big show down at the Spotted Cow in Bedminster on the 11th of June. The line up for it so far includes;

Acerone, Andy Council, China Mike, Eko, Faris Badwan, French, Inkie, Mr Jago, Mudwig, Paris, Pinky, Richt, Sainty, Sickboy, 45rpm

and there’s more info on their blog.

Also opening this month is the next Weapon of Choice Gallery group show, with the current show closing this Sunday. The gallery’s looking really good, and the next show looks like another top lineup.

Weapon of Choice Gallery’s 2nd installment of some of Bristol & the UK’s finest.

Saturday 13th June 5-10pm. Free entry
Exhibition runs until the Sunday 5th July 2009

They’ve also got a colouring book coming out by Cheo in September it seems, sounds like a perfect bit of early xmas shopping if you know any little people, or little people who’ve since got big.

Last thing for this month so far, there’s strong talk going round of Glostonbury happening again later this month up at the Golden Lion on the Gloucester Road. Last year looked like a large one, sounds like the same’s being lined up again.

Oh yeah, and Banksy‘s got a show coming up too.

RWA Show – The Finished Thing

The show’s preview night is tonight then, and it opens properly tomorrow (Saturday) so the photos can go up. Got to say, unless you absolutely can’t make it down to this, don’t rely on the photos for it, they’re never going to capture the whole thing properly.

Anyway, photos of the finished works in there, again in no particular order, courtesy of WordPress.

Dirtcheap Magazine

dirtcheap-mag-logo You may have seen it already, but the folks at Dirtcheap Magazine are doing some interesting stuff with a web based mag that’s on it’s way to becoming a printed mag in the near future.

Covers lots of different stuff including graf, and they’ve got a cover and interview by 45RPM on the way, as well as an interview with Sickboy.

Worth keeping an eye on, wander over to their site and check it out…
