Haiti Fundraiser With Graf Antics Tonight!

If you’re not heading to the Bristol Gallery show tonight, or even if you are and you somehow happen to get round the quality work in a shortish time, then there’s something you should head over to at Metropolis.

It’s a fundraiser for a couple of charities in Haiti doing good work, and as ever the graf community has stepped up to help.

Amongst other things being auctioned, there’s work by 3rd Eye, Sepr and a special ‘friends only’ edition of an early Nick Walker Vandal print, donated by someone with a pedigree all of their own. There’s a small reserve on it natch, but if you’re into your Bristol graf, you could do much worse than be down there for a cheeky bid, you never know what will happen at auctions.

It’s compered by the inimitable Art Tart, and there’s all sorts of other antics going on too, burlesque, belly dancing and a dood playing a saw. Dubrovnik DJ set too, top stuff. Metropolis is an ace venue since they sorted the sound out, so why not warm up for the weekend and give some money to people who need it more than we can imagine right now?

£6 on the door, 7pm to 2am, you know it makes sense. More chat on Facebook if you need it.

Sepr, Epok, Sepr, Out And About

Hoorah for a break in the sodding rain this weekend, and the chance to go and get some more photos. There’s not a lot of painting going on in this weather, but Sepr’s been sticking with it.

Here’s something from him and Epok down on Albert Park Place in Montpelier, an area that’s off the beaten track for this sort of thing a bit, but is well worth checking out.

Here’s a joiner by the man himself. Click for enlargementsomeness.

That one’s a couple of weeks old now, but this one’s more recent. Three days work, constantly dodging rain showers, but it’s turned out really well for it.

Bit closer on a sentiment we can all agree with.

Get Dring Mobile – The Photos

Top night down at Paintworks last night for the Get Dring Mobile auction, some great live painting outside, great music and a whole lot of bidding for a great guy. Well, bidding for art to raise money for a great guy, Mike himself of course not being for sale.

It was interesting to see how the bidding went. Some pieces were an absolute steal, other went for far more than you would ever have thought. As a wise man put it last night, ‘a picture’s only worth what someone is willing to pay for it’. Stencil work still seems to be very much in fashion with the buyerati, wonder how much longer that will last.

In total, the auction raised something like £24,500, before you count in the bar receipts, pieces that sold outside of the auction and all sorts. So well on the way to getting Mike’s car sorted then, awesome stuff.

There’s more to come still too, lots of pieces left to be sold on Ebay very soon, including a lovely Will Barras that lots of people were coveting last night, so keep an eye out.

Here’s some photos from it all then, the live painting as it went along, and the works inside the auction as well.

Bower Ashton Paint Jam Next Tuesday

Not a lot of people know, but Bower Ashton campus of UWE has a fair old history in the world of Bristol graffiti. Lots of well known writers have passed through its doors over the last few years, in fact for some it’s the reason they came to Bristol in the first place. Well, if not the reason, then perhaps the justification…

Just one example of it, courtesy of Neil, the back wall of the bar there painted by Sickboy back in 2000 or so. Early as you like.

So, from the good people that brought you the ‘Not Just Banksy’ event a while back, and co-inciding with Fresher’s Week, a large paint jam’s been organised down there for next Tuesday (22nd September). Here’s the chat;

Bristol’s
FLX – SEPR – LOKEY – SOKER

UWE’s

Turntable Tuesday DJs in the bar.

Wouldn’t be a student event if it wasn’t being organised through Facebook, so check it out for more over there. If you want to see some of what happened at the last one, auntie beeb has some footage here. Otherwise head down to Kennel Lodge Road at the bottom of Ashton Court a week today.

The Lakota Gets Painted

Lakota was a really big club back in the day, so many huge events there, and billed on a national level with Cream, Turnmills, etc. Despite one or two biggies now and again (the Banksy Museum Show afterparty was there a few months back, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and all), it’s not been what it was for a few years now, and it came close to being pulled down for yet more of the ‘luxury executive flats’ that this city so clearly needs.

Seems that’s still a possibility, but it’s on the backburner now, as there’s a new lease in place for a couple more years. So, given what it used to be, the owners have decided to do the place up, put in brand new toilets, rip out the stage, and get a tidy new paint job to go over the flaking Paris and Eco work that was there (and had lasted 10 years or so to be fair).

So, the weekend saw a massive new work going up on it, Cheo getting his bit done on Friday, then Flx, Soker, Jody, Sepr, Epok and 3Dom coming down Saturday onwards.

It’s still not done now, there’s talk of more people being lined up to come along, and there may be some tidying to do here and there. But here’s a bit of a gallery of the weekend’s painting (and the one bit of graf they’ve left inside the now repainted club, a couple of old Ghostboy stencils).
